How does UV-C light kill germs and viruses?

UV-C light at 254 nanometers penetrates the cell walls of microorganisms and damages their DNA/RNA, preventing them from reproducing and rendering them harmless. This is the same technology used in hospitals, laboratories, and water treatment facilities. The PREMIERone system exposes air to UV-C light as it passes through your HVAC system, neutralizing pathogens before they can circulate through your home.

Is the UV light safe for my family and pets?

Absolutely. The UV lamp is installed inside your sealed ductwork where no one is exposed to the light. The system includes caution labels and the lamp housing shields UV from shining on sensitive materials. UV-C light only works on microorganisms that pass directly in front of it—it doesn't produce any radiation that travels through your home.

What's the difference between this and a standard air filter?

Standard air filters (even HEPA filters) only capture particles—they can't kill germs or eliminate odors. Bacteria and viruses can remain alive on filter media and potentially release back into the air. UV-C light actually destroys pathogens at the DNA level, and the oxidizing system breaks down gases and odors that filters can't touch. For best results, use this system alongside your regular filter.

How often does the lamp need to be replaced?

The lamp should be replaced every 2 years (approximately 17,520 hours of operation). While the lamp may still illuminate after 2 years, its germicidal effectiveness decreases over time. LEX Air Conditioning offers convenient lamp replacement service—just call us and we'll handle the swap and proper disposal of the old lamp.

Will this help with my allergies?

Many allergy sufferers report significant relief after installing UV air purification. The system destroys mold spores, bacteria, and other biological allergens that trigger symptoms. The oxidizing system also breaks down volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from household products that can irritate sensitive respiratory systems. While results vary by individual, cleaner air typically means easier breathing.

Does it produce ozone?

The oxidizing unit produces activated oxygen (similar to what's created by lightning or ocean waves) which is different from harmful ozone. The levels are well within safe limits and dissipate quickly. The adjustable control knob lets you reduce the oxidizing output if you're sensitive. Note: If you already have an ionizing air cleaner that produces ozone, PREMIERone recommends not using the oxidizing unit in that application.

Can I install this myself?

While the system is designed for professional installation, we strongly recommend having LEX install it for several reasons: proper placement is critical for effectiveness, electrical connections must be made safely, and professional installation protects your lifetime warranty. DIY installation that results in damage or improper operation may void your warranty coverage.
